PROSPECTOR JOHN'S STORY

I came to Alaska in 1994 to fulfill my childhood dream of living off the land, wondering whether I had the grit to survive.  I lived my dream to the max, exploring the Kenai Peninsula in every season by horse, boat, plane and on foot!  Thankfully I survived! Along the way I caught gold prospecting fever!  In 2004, I began sharing my passion for prospecting with others, opening a store, and guiding gold prospecting and mining trips into the wild.  In 2010, I obtained a United States Forest Service permit to access streambeds otherwise off limits to prospectors and to the public.  In 2013-2014, I appeared in three episodes of "Wild West Alaska" on Animal Planet.  In 2017, I starred in a Discovery Channel series, "Devil's Canyon," highlighting the trials and tribulations of prospecting, and filmed in remote British Columbia, Canada.  That very same year, I fell in love!  Of all the prospects, I fell for a big city lawyer, and she for me!  We married in August 2018, honeymooning in remote Alaska fishing for Coho Salmon.  Life is full of wonderful, amazing and delightful surprises!  When my bride, Shaun, and I aren't prospecting and minding the store, we fish the waters of Alaska and Texas!
